Christmas lights run and 'soiree'
We had a good turn out for the usual Tuesday evening
Santa run to the lights in Hayes Lane on 20 December, followed by a meal and
social (including xmas raffle) at Parklangley. Thanks to John Soper and Pat
Cliff for organising the event and well done to all those who turned out.
London Marathon 2012
place
We only have one free marathon place this year. The
organisers are basing entitlement on the running of first claim members with
race licences according to the England Athletics database and we have only
between 1 and 50, thus gaining us one place. BVAC members seeking this place
should, if they applied for a place in tha ballot and otherwise satisfy the
constitutional requirements, show their rejection slip to Phil before the place
is allotted at the Annual/ Christmas dinner.
I'm a celebrity, get me into there
England's fastest ever marathon runner, Charlie Spedding, and one of
Scotland's greatest marathons runners, Fraser Clyne, were guest speakers at a
recent event attended by BVAC members Jane, Phil and Geraldine. So, a photos was
a necessity (see right). A more detailed write-up of the training weekend in
Balmoral will be included in the training section.
Annual/ Christmas dinner
Saturday 10 December 2011
- 7.30 for 8.00pm Parklangley Club. We will be enjoying the usual full Christmas
meal (turkey - or vegetarian alternative -
christmas pudding, mince pies, etc). There'll also be a
presentation of prizes for the more unusual highlights of the year! Tickets are available from Shirley Poole.
Autumn social
Tuesday 11 October, after the normal training/club run
we'll be sitting down to another social meal at Parklangley club. Please contact
John Soper about attending and the choice of food on offer - which you'll need
to order in advance.
Quiz and St Christopher's Hospice presentation
evening
A number of BVAC members and family took part in the
British 10k (see Marathons, road & other races) under places
acquired by St Christopher's Hospice. A large amount of sponsorship was raised
by the individuals concerned but the club also held a quiz, the proceeds from
which were used to supplement their efforts.
The quiz was organised by Terry McDonald and James
Winbourne. It took place at Parklangley Club. Apart from the £10 entrance fee
person (which included sausage and mash supper), a number of prizes were
acquired for the raffle which helped raised a total of £690.
Overall, our contribution to St Christophers was in
excess of £2,500.
We celebrated the club's efforts and presented a cheque
for the proceeds raised from the quiz to Rebecca Kemp of St Christopher's at a
celebration event at Parklangley on Tuesday 26 July 2011.
London Marathon presentation evening
In traditional BVAC fashion, the Club donated £10 to
the charities of our runners in the London Marathon. Their chosen charities were
as follows:
Connie Jackson - Age UK
Jim Winbourne - Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research
Tina Northwood - British Heart Foundation
Linda Whiteley - Alzheimers Society
Phil Greenfield - Lifeblood -The Thrombosis Charity
Les Humphrey - British Heart Foundation
A number of BVAC members also helped out at the
Marathon exhibition, giving out numbers, chips, etc. See right and
also, for a less than reverent pic of Phil and John 'aboard' Virgin's 26.2
big number, the home page!
BVAC 5-mile Cross Country race
We once more hosted a 5 mile cross country race at Spring
Park/ Sparrows Den. The 2011 event took place on Saturday 5 March at
2.00pm. For further details, see the race page.
BVAC AGM 2011
We will be holding our Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 8
February at Parklangley Club. Apart from the limited amount of official
business, we will be presenting the trophies and having a bit of a social, with
wine and nibbles. The Shircol Cup goes to the most improved in the handicaps and
the new Parkrun Cup for those taking part on the third Saturday of each month.
Please come along and give your support and enjoy a bit of fun with the Club!

London Marathon 2011 places
The two free places which BVAC has
received for the London Marathon 2011 were allocated in
accordance with the constitution among those members who satisfy the criteria
for entry - those individuals who have been members for at least a year (or
thereabouts), are first claim to BVAC and have applied for places but been
rejected. There were only two applicants so Linda Whitely and Connie Jackson won
the places without the need for a ballot.BVAC Officers 2011
