Kent Fitness League cross country races - occasional Sundays during Winter

We now have confirmed dates for the Kent Fitness cross country league meetings. If you're interested in taking part but don't know the ropes, please call Helen James (020 8462 1678) or Jane Greenfield/ Phil Greenfield (020 8462 5496).

All the races start at 11am and are around 5 miles long on varying off-road terrain. It is still the first 7 men and 3 women that count toward our points total, while every finisher helps to push down the opponents scoring. Entry fee is £2 on the day. Finishers are entered into an end of race raffle.

Club Colours imperative but members could choose to run either in the old style vests or in the new-style long or short sleeved tops.

Swanley Park relays

We entered four teams this year at the Swanley Park relays - two women's teams and two men's teams. This was an excellent effort. Each team comprised four runners and could be all male, all female or mixed (2 men and 2 women to compete for the team prize).

Parkrun cup - third Saturday every month

In December, there was a smaller BVAC contingent for leg of our Parkrun Cup.  Gavin Kitchingham (in his first run in this series) produced  the run of the day, with an age-graded score of 79.85 but Anne Unseld was close on his heels with 78.89. Otherwise, Simon Cowie and Pat Cliff produced 3-race average increases. Pat has, as a result, produced a winning lead with only one race to go before presentation of the Cup at our AGM. Congratulations to Pat but well done to erveryone else who took part in December and throughout the year.

The November running of our event within an event left little change in the leaderboard though Pat Cliff extended her lead with another three-race average improvement.  Jane narrowed the gap on Soheel with another PB but time is runing out. There was also a PB for Veronica. Those otherwise improving their three-race average were Sandra, Pat, Roger, Geraldine, Simon and Helen. Rob again achieved the best age grading of the men with Anne the best of the women. Well done everyone and thanks for taking part.

October saw a big turnout of BVAC members for the Parkrun cup event.  Soheel narrowed the gap that Pat has at the top to just 16 points, with another PB. There were also PBs for Jane, TonyM (by the Rivers of ... - oh no, not quite), Geraldine and Jackie. Those otherwise improving their three-race average were Val, Beckyand Sandra. September's Parkrun cup event saw a very strong personal best from Soheel Bhandari to narrow the gap between him and Pat Cliff for top spot! Rob Brown missed the chance to make further progress with the Kent track and field championships taking place the same weekend. There were personal bests for Phil Greenfield, Lorraine D'Arcy and Geraldine Turner and 3-race average improvements also for Veronica Marnell and Jane Greenfield. Roger Harris took part as a first timers as BVAC member.

The August run in the Parkrun cup event saw Pat Cliff retake Soheel Bhandari for top spot, as he was on holiday! Jane Greenfield was the only one to post a PB in this run and another 3-race average improvement, gave her moist points on the day, but Rob Brown also continued to make ground on the leaders with another 3-race average improvement and the greatest age grade. Others posting average improvements included Phil Greenfield and Geraldine Turner. More first timers as BVAC members in the Parkrun Cup included Sandra Parker and Simon Cowie, though it was great to see Helen James and Ron Gadd back from their health scares and putting in their first efforts in the Cup this season. All told, 28 different BVAC members have now run in one of the Parkrun Cup events this season - great effort!

July's Parkrun cup event saw Soheel Bhandari overtake Pat Cliff at the top of the leader board, after another three race average improvement. Soheel has posted several PBs over recent weeks so is in excellent form; Pat had run a 10K in Rye the previous evening so was recovering somewhat. Val Hassett and Jane Greenfield have leapt up the table into fourth and fifth places respectively (though we have a tied fifth with Nikki Davies on the same points). We had 9 runners take part all told with no PBs this time but Rob Brown, Soheel and Jane Greenfield were only seconds off.

The June stage of the Parkrun cup again saw some very strong performances with PBs from Jane Greenfield, Soheel Bhandari and Colin Poole. The May race saw a large BVAC entry with 16 members participating. Well done to all - great effort. We achieved 6 personal bests as well, recording some excellent times. Pat Cliff consolidated her lead overall but Soheel closed the gap a little, both improving once more on their three-race averages. Nikki Davies remains in third place even though she was unable to run this time but Rob Brown leads the chasing pack with several now over the 100 point mark.
