Track & Field - 2004 (archive)

Inter-counties match (Kent v Surrey v Sussex) - 8 August

There are a several members of BVAC who will be representing Kent at the match with Surrey and Sussex on 8 August at Ashford. Why not pop along and give them some support? BVAC should be providing officials for the Hammer, so if there are any members who would like to help please let Phil know as soon as possible.

Southern Veterans League - 2004

So the Track & Field league is over for another year. BVAC did exceptionally well this year. The women finished runners-up to Bexley in a very tight finish, losing out only by one point in the final league match of the season - had we won that we would have been equal on points in the overall standings. The men came third with the second place again resting on the final match when Medway & Maidstone came through to win their first meeting of the season.

In his first year as T&F Manager, Phil Greenfield says:

"The season has been notable for me for some excellent performances and the have-a-go spirit of our ladies. I hope that next season we will do even better and try to ensure we score in every event."

Commemorative One Mile Races - 6 May 2004

To mark the 50th anniversary of the first 4-minute mile, there were a number of One Mile races held at the Dartford track in Central Park, Cranford Road (link to Map). 6 May is the day on which that record was set in 1954. It falls this year on a Thursday. Races start 7.00pm.

The result in the Men's Vets Invitation race was a 1-2 for Bromley Vets. Phil Greenfield and Chris Marshall tore the field apart, leading from the gun and together stretching out the field before Phil added some extra pace on the last lap with a final sprint to take the tape.
